This Week in Student Ministry: SLU

This week, a couple dozen of our students will be participating in leadership training at Student Leadership University (slulead.com). Please be in prayer as they learn biblical and practical skills that will shape the rest of their lives. This is from their website:

Shape your students’ future through the ultimate experience at SLU 101! Your students will begin their leadership journey by understanding that Leadership Begins at the Feet of Jesus. From behind the scenes at SeaWorld to world-class speakers in exclusive learning environments, SLU 101 teaches your students the practical, relational, and life skills to change the way they think, dream, and lead!

Again, this week could be life-changing. Please be in prayer for our students this week and their impact personally for the rest of their lives.

This Week in Student Ministry: Summer Prayer

We’ve had a GREAT start to our summer, whether that be as a result of God working through Send Camp, Vacation Bible School, or our normal Sunday and Wednesday activities! As we look forward to the rest of the summer, please continue to pray. Pray for a few things specifically:

Pray for our remaining Summer Events: Student Leadership University (June 26-30) and our Cleveland Mission Trip (July 25-August 1). Both trips have been intentionally planned to springboard our students into greater positions of influence.

Pray for our Summer Series. Throughout the summer, on Wednesday nights, we’re inviting different communicators to talk about how to grow in your relationship with God. As the summer is a time of rest, pray that our students would not rest from but in their with God.

Pray for key Mission Opportunities. Our schedule for the summer is intentionally thin. This gives our groups opportunities to serve together. We’re also hosting Mystery Mission Trips and other opportunities, like Metro Ministries and One Meal (Feeding the Homeless).

Pray for the New School Year. As we continue on in the summer, be strategic about praying for the upcoming school year. Pray for our students to be in a position to make a difference and continue to pray for strategic leaders in our ministry as we gear up for the fall/ winter.

Summer Send Camp: Camp Recap

Send Camp 2016 was a success!

Almost 70 students signed up to serve their city in a unique way. Partnering with local schools, we served by painting parking lines, building a deck, picking up trash, moving furniture/ desks, clearing property, and a number of other inside and outside jobs. Although hot, our students pushed forward and completed what was asked of them. As one student put it, “I didn’t know working could be fun!”

Besides the mission projects, we also had times of worship, small groups, and big-time recreation. One student, who signed up to work, even gave his life to Jesus during the week! We ended the week at Redemption Church where we highlighted the work and baptized a few students who had surrounded to Jesus in the last couple of weeks.

This Week in Student Ministry: Summer Camp FAQ

Parents,

The summer is always a busy time of vacations, athletics, family gatherings, and even additional school work! In the midst of the busyness we’ve planned a week for your child to grow spiritually. We’re calling the week: Summer Send Camp. Our group last year said it was, “the best week of the summer.” And others, whose lives were forever changed, said, “This was the best week of my life.”

You can sign up for Summer Send Camp in the church foyer this Sunday or online at: https://goredemption.tpsdb.com/OnlineReg/519.

Below I have answered a few questions that you might have:

How much will it cost? $200

When is it? June 1-5

How does the schedule work for Mobile County students? We’ve planned the week to involve more students from the Mobile County Public School System (MCPSS). Students will begin the camp by registering at Redemption Church on June 1st between 5:00 and 6:00PM (after school). Dinner will be provided during this registration period. The students will depart for our West Mobile Campus, the site of this year’s camp, at 6:00PM.

What will the week consist of? Imagine a summer camp and a mission trip combined. Our mornings will include breakfast, quiet times, team rallies and mission projects. After lunch our students will continue their projects. The later afternoons will include big time team competitions, recreation times, dinner, dynamic worship services, small groups, and after parties.

When will I pick my kid(s) up? The week will conclude with on Sunday morning with our students attending the 10:30AM worship service at Redemption Church North Mobile. Pick up will be noon.

What should they bring? Here is a short list of items to be thinking about:

  • Bible/ Pen
  • Clothes for Recreation and Mission Projects (to get dirty)
  • Swimsuit
  • Closed Toed Shoes
  • Sandals
  • Sleeping Bag (air mattress is optional)
  • Pillow
  • Towel
  • Toiletries (in bag that can be taken to and from the shower)
  • Sunscreen
  • Beach Towel
  • First aid kit (band aids, bug spray, ect.)

*** There will be a parent meeting on May 22nd immediately following the 10:30AM service to cover all other information for Summer Camp. In the meantime, feel free to contact me at nathans@goredemption.com or 251-445-5438.

I love being your Student Pastor!
